The Northern Vancouver Island Salmonid Enhancement Association (NVISEA) is seeking a full time hatchery technician for the Quatse River Hatchery in Port Hardy. Duties vary seasonally and include fish husbandry, crew supervision, swim enumeration, fish transport and releases, data recording, facility tours and general maintenance activities.
Candidates are required to have a diploma in Fisheries and Aquaculture Technology or equivalent facility experience, excellent computer skills and a valid BC driver's licence. Assets include swift water rescue, Level 1 first aid, net pen fish culture experience, general maintenance skills and adult and juvenile species identification.
NVISEA operates the Quatse River Hatchery, Quatse Salmon Stewardship Centre and O'Connor Lake Net Pens. We also partner with the Friends of the Marble River to seasonally staff the Marble River Public Involvement Program (PIP) Hatchery. NVISEA employs four full time staff members, with an additional casual crew of eight. This position is full time, Tuesday to Saturday.
